Job Title: Temporary Clinical Research Education Specialist



This is a Temporary position limited to no more than 12-months. This position is part-time and limited to no more than an average of 30 hours a week in a twelve-month period.



Job Summary:

This position will have responsibility for the education and training of clinical research teams on the importance of health literacy and plain language materials and resources in clinical research. This position may help with the review and development of study materials and public-facing websites. This is a newly created position supporting the Clinical Research Recruitment Program in the Office of Clinical Research Operations Support (CROS) providing plain language and health literacy education in clinical research of the CU Anschutz research community.

The ideal candidate will exhibit confidence in establishing and defining this new role and flexibility as the role evolves. The Clinical Research Education Specialist will be able to build, maintain and nurture existing and new relationships with staff at all levels and with both internal & external stakeholders. This position requires a strategic thinker who is collaborative, approachable, responsive, and trustworthy.

This specialist is skilled in clinical research recruitment processes; writing, editing, and proofreading; developing plain language summaries from source documents that contain complex scientific language and medical jargon; collaborating with clinical teams, requesting necessary information, and negotiating language to ensure it health literate.

Professionals at the intermediate level are responsible for exercising discretion, analytical skill, personal accountability, and responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic, administrative, managerial and student services functions. Work involves creating, integrating, applying, and sharing knowledge directly related to a professional field.

At the intermediate level, duties may be more limited in scope and are performed with guidance and direction from other professionals.



This position is a part-time position with a minimum of 10 hours per week required but not to exceed 20 hours per week. This position will report to the Program Director of the Clinical Research Recruitment Program.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Review and help author accurate, clear, and health literate content for the research team's study webpages on the Research Studies Website.
  • Be the primary approver for study webpages submitted through the Research Admin Tool.
  • Develop plain language summaries (PLS) from source documents for recruitment materials (flyers, brochures, etc.).
  • Collaborate with other Clinical Research Recruitment Team members to ensure PLS are appropriate for different recruitment methods.
  • Review of studies that have submitted to be included in the Study Spotlight Newsletter to assist with review of study webpage and the 1-2 sentence included in the newsletter.
  • Develop educational resources and materials for the CU Anschutz Research Community around plain language materials and health literacy basics as it relates to clinical research.
  • Identify educational gaps and resource needs for the CU Anschutz Research Community to help improve clinical research recruitments efforts.
  • Partner and collaborate with research professionals within the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research (OVCR) and across campus.
  • Work closely with the COIRB and Office of Regulatory and Compliance to address regulatory, institutional policy, and/or workflow barriers that affect clinical research recruitment.
  • Work closely with Research Studies Website web developer to identify, troubleshoot, and solve any issues with the website.
  • Help address any ZenDesk questions/problems related to the Research Studies Website by serving as the liaison between the Program Director and the web developer.
  • Miscellaneous: Other tasks and responsibilities as identified by the Program Director.

Work Location:

Hybrid – this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of # days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution

Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.



Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelors in science, clinical research, public health, education, or similar field
  • 1 or more years of professional experience in public health, education, or similar field.
  • Experience with web development
  • Experience with OnCore, Clinical Trial Management System.
  • Experience with the Federal Plain Language Guidelines and Plain Language at NIH Resources and Trainings
  • Experience with Smartsheet or similar software
  • Bilingual / Bicultural in Spanish and English

Anticipated Pay Range:

The hiring rate for this position has been established at $24.95 / hour. The above salary rate represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the rate at the time of posting.
