This is a part-time (20 hours per week), temporary position, with anticipated grant funding through Summer 2029.

DEPARTMENT/PROGRAM SUMMARY
The Latine Student Success Center/El Centro's mission is to cultivate, strengthen, and advance an inclusive and empowering community for students, staff and faculty from a Latine/Chicane/x background and members from other marginalized groups to develop the skills, knowledge, and attitude necessary in order to flourish emotionally, socially, academically and professionally.

POSITION SUMMARY
Under the leadership of and reporting to the Project Director of El Centro, the research analyst will establish a system of high-quality data collection in order to support enrollment and retention efforts. CSUMB's El Centro project includes a focus on HSI-specific data. The Research Analyst will facilitate this work, including the development of Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI)-specific dashboards and data sets. The research analyst is critical to CSUMB's transformation as a true Hispanic-serving institution and will be a necessary role in supporting ongoing HSI/MSI efforts moving forward. Improved enrollment and retention will generate sufficient revenue to support institutionalization of this position.

Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include. but are not limited to. the following:

  • Collect, analyze, and interpret institutional data related to Latine/Hispanic student enrollment, retention, and academic outcomes to support decision-making.
  • Develop and maintain HIS-specific dashboards, reports, and datasets to track key performance indicators.
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and areas of improvement for Latine/Hispanic student success.
  • Assist in designing and implementing research studies that support HIS/MSI initiatives, including surveys, focus groups, and case studies.
  • Collaborate with university stakeholders, including faculty, staff, and administrators, to share findings and inform evidence-based strategies for student success.
  • Develop protocols, training materials, and guidelines to support Participatory Action Research (PAR) teams in data collection and interpretation.
  • Present research findings in written reports, presentations, and visual formats (e.g., data visualizations, infographics) to communicate insights effectively.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional research policies and data governance best practices.
  • Support grant reporting and assessment efforts by compiling data and preparing documentation for grant-funded initiatives.
  • Stay informed on best practices and emerging trends in educational research, particularly in Hispanic-Serving Institutions and Minority-Serving Institutions.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
The Research Analyst will provide project support to assist the project management team and the HSI/MSI Initiatives Committee in accessing, analyzing, utilizing, and applying learnings from HSI-specific data. The Research Analyst will also assist the Project Director in developing protocols and training materials for the Participatory Action Research teams.
  • Analyze data of Hispanic students who had a DFW every semester
  • Prepare data questions, protocols, and scripts to orient Participatory Action Research teams


Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
The research analyst must have any combination equivalent to a bachelor's degree in statistics, mathematics, economics, or social/educational research and three years responsible experience involving related research and analysis activities and projects.

The hourly hiring range for this position is $23 - $25. This is a non-exempt position and as such is eligible for the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
