College/Department Information

The Medical College of Georgia is one of the nation's largest medical schools by class size, with 260 students per class. The educational experience is anchored by the main campus in Augusta, regional clinical campuses for third- and fourth-year students across the state and a second four-year campus in Athens in partnership with the University of Georgia. MCG's expanding partnerships with physicians and hospitals across Georgia currently provides about 350 sites where students can experience the full spectrum of medicine, from complex care hospitals to small-town solo practices. MCG and its teaching hospitals also provide postgraduate education to more than 500 residents and fellows in 50 different Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-approved programs. Our researchers and clinicians focus on what most impacts the health of Georgia's and America's children and adults, including cardiovascular biology and disease, cancer, neurosciences and behavioral sciences, public and preventive health, regenerative and reparative medicine, personalized medicine and genomics. Our physician faculty also share their expertise with physicians and patients at about 100 clinics and hospitals statewide.

Job Summary

This position is responsible for accurate data collection and abstraction from different secondary data sources including electronic medical records and create and maintain a database for the department. The senior research associate will also compile, clean, and manage the database. The incumbent will coordinate the data collection component of all active studies of the department.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

STUDY MANAGEMENT: The position is expected to provide the documentation necessary for the mandatory regulatory oversight regulatory management of study including obtaining IRB approval and other institutional requirement approval from regulatory committees. Maintaining regulatory documents for clinical studies. Managing, maintaining and validating departmental database.

DATA COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS: This position will participate in clinical research with the primary responsibility of overseeing and involving in screening patient in the emr, collecting and abstracting quality data from the emr and other medical documents. Analyzing and extracting disease specific data from the record. Additionally, provides logistical support to the departmental research team members including physicians, investigators, and fellows in data management for improved patient care, clinical performance, and outcomes. Identify opportunities for improved performance in Data management, verification and analyzing based on own experience and on feedback from internal and external database resources and implements the changes as required.

COLLABORATION: Provides logistical and informatics assistance to the research team of the department including fellows, residents, medical students, and others in data collection, data analysis and generating reports for improved performance and for scientific publications and presentations in different professional meetings. Work closely with BMT data coordinator, especially in data abstraction and reviewing data from BMT database.

ADMINISTRATIVE: Performing administrative and technical work in support of ongoing research projects and develop and evaluate new research techniques and procedures.

OTHER DUTIES: Perform all other job-related duties/tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and two years of experience in research, basic science or clinical laboratory, particularly clinical trial research.

OR

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned with a minimum of five years' research and/or clinical experience; previous supervisory experience.

Pay Band: B9

Salary Minimum: $48,800 - Midpoint: $61,000

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
